What Andrew Had to Say:

When I bought my Land Cruiser I knew I wanted to install red lights on it for night driving on trails and for animal viewing, since many animals can’t see red light. I came across Black Oak through a Google search while looking for red spot lights and light bars and their selection and pricing was better than any of the other retailers I had found. Black Oak was the only company I found that carried lights that met my requirements and I couldn’t be happier. 

Installation was incredibly easy. For the rock lights I removed the lining in each wheel well and drilled three holes for each light. Two for the bolts and one for the wiring. One notable feature of the rock lights is that the wiring comes out the backside of the light for a clean look on the surface. I’ve seen other brands lights that have wiring coming out the side, so having a clean look is definitely preferred. I installed two rock lights in each wheel well and have them wired to a single switch on a dash mounted SwitchPro. The amps of each rock light are low enough that I could run all eight to a single switch with plenty of room to spare. 

For the spot lights I mounted them to an A Pillar mount and simply ran the wiring around the gap in the hood. I spliced the wiring into the SwitchPro on a single switch and bypassed the relay since it wasn’t necessary for my setup. Either the position of the spot lights I can turn them in any horizontal or vertical direction to get the coverage I need depending on the situation, whether I’m driving or just parked facing an open field to see what walks into the clearing. 

I’m so satisfied with the quality, pricing, and simplicity of the installation that I will be buying more lights from Black Oak in the future. I plan on adding two white rock lights to each side of the vehicle that will be connected to the walk-up sensor so I can see the ground every time I approach my vehicle at night, as well as two under the hood connected to a rocker switch for working in the engine compartment at night. I also plan on adding a red light bar to the grille for even brighter coverage. Black Oak is now my go-to when it comes to lighting. I couldn't be happier. Thank you to Black Oak LED for helping me find my way at night.
