What Jeff Had to Say:
"When we started our lighting search, we found it to be a competitive market with a LOT of low cost providers. We talked to a lot of people from off road enthusiasts, hunters, and commercial fisherman. It really came down to quality - do we want to swap out lights each year or go with something that we know is going to work and last in our abusive environment. As we are navigating at night, we really need to spot obstacles in the water - crab pots, logs, and waves. We went with quality and reliability first - we have to see obstacles, but also be seen as we are running through the Columbia River Bar (major shipping lane). We trust Black Oak. For our 21 foot boat, we landed on a 10" Dual Row 5 watt. Installation with the bracket is easy, and the harness was easy to connect to the panel - good quality stuff. After installation, we compared to our friends that have 32-50 inch light bars from other manufacturers, and the 10" Black Oak is brighter and a much more clear view."
"It’s called the Graveyard of the Pacific. Google it. We commercial salmon fish on the Oregon Coast out of a 21 foot 1973 Harvey Dory. Some days, because of tides and ocean conditions, we have to launch at in early morning darkness, to cross the Columbia River Bar. Crab pots, incoming freighters, and occasionally, 15-20 foot breaking waves are part of the “excitement”. We have to have Black Oak. Nothing is even in the same ballpark. If we can’t see, we aren’t coming home."
