Congrats to Justin D'Angelo on winning this month's giveaway!
Justin will be walking away with a 20" Double Row 5W Combo valued at $680.
Take a look at what Justin had to say about his Black Oak products below:
I was doing a lot of research prior to my purchase on how other guys have installed a light bar behind these GMC grilles. I'm not sure if you are aware, but there are active grille shutters in the newer GMC's from I believe 2017 - present which makes it rather difficult and very limited room to put a light bar behind the grille, the clearances are very tight. I have a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500.
First and foremost, it was obvious to me I needed to trim part of the factory grille with a multi tool. I went back and forth fitting it in place, making marks on where I needed to cut. Furthermore, I also had to notch a couple of the active shutters so when they open and close, they would clear the light bar and not throw a DTC code which most guys run into when they start messing around with the shutters. Once I had my notching done, I bought a lot of parts to try different installs. I came across these drilled "L" brackets at true value and thought it would be perfect! I had to drill into the active shutter plastic body to mount the L brackets to. I found a coupling nut and a long enough bolt to make the connections to the L brackets on each side and the grille literally popped into place with zero issues and the bar is rock solid, it doesn't move at all. I locktited all the nuts and bolts and let it rock.
The light bar has truly improved the overall visibility during the snow storms we have already had here in the northeast. It has also improved overall visibility during the night simply driving down really dark roads that have no light.
