This was a DIY project and everyone was so helpful demonstrating the products, answering my questions, and offering suggestions. Out of the box the quality of the product is obvious, they look good on the boat, and once turned on the power of the lights with regards to their size is astounding.
My wife and I cruise a lot and safety is our top priority. My biggest concern was the lights interfering with my radar. I was able to test out the system the other day in a dense sea fog. With visibility less than a 1/4 mile, I turned on my lights and radar, and there was no interference whatsoever. I could clearly see other boats and channel markers on the radar and navigated safely back to port.
We do a good deal of night cursing and everyone is eager to help with holding the hand spotlight. Unfortunately, it was inevitable that I would be blinded by well meaning passengers. The videos show how much of a difference the new lights make. Beginning with no light, then our handheld spot, and finally the new Black Oak LED lights, it is clear to see how much theses lights increase the safety of traveling at night. Crab traps were easily seen and avoided. Previously our handheld would pick up a pair or two of channel markers, but with the addition of these lights our channel now looks like a runway as we return home!
These are one of the best safety features we could have included on the boat. The project was fun, easy, and very rewarding. Thanks again to everyone at Black Oak LED. You guys are the best.
